If this motel were located anywhere else it would receive an excellent rating from me. Turning on the fan helped drown out some of that, but nothing could be done about the busy train tracks in back. There was a busy highway in front with a lot of truck traffic. The adjacent restaurant had good food at reasonable prices. The pool was a little chilly, but the hot tub was great. When traveling it's nice to experience something different from the ordinary. It reminded you of the glory days of Route 66. The space theme was very neat, and a big hit with the kids. You had to ask for ice, but they graciously gave you all you wanted. There were lots of extra fluffy new towels, and toiletries. ![]() The noisy location was something else! Our room was very nice, and spacious with an extra large vanity. The motel itself was excellent, couldn't say enough good things about it. My comments about this motel fall into two completely different categories. Don't come expecting anything but a dusty town with a great hotel and restaurant. There is a nice cheap laundromat across the street and a grocery store that is stocked with only the basics. ![]() The staff was great, the cleaning crew was great and spoke enough English to hold a conversation (staying in Arizona, you know what I'm talking about). Unfortunately, we didn't have time to use the pool (plus it was a little cool), but we looked and it was perfectly cared for as well as the hot tub. I didn't really get the noise others have noted on this site, at least nothing that would make you sit up in the middle of the night. The rooms were clean and spacious as I've come to expect from Best Western hotels. The restaurant is the only place to eat that's really worth anything (they even have fish and a salad bar for finicky types). It is definetly the classiest place in Gila Bend. On our way to Cactus Bend National Park, we stopped at the Space Lodge. Gila Bend is not an exciting town, there's not much to do unless you like the outdoors and want to spend some time really experiencing the desert. Ajo looked a lot bigger and should probably have chosen a place to stay there. Only foodmart by gas stations and Kmart only choice of white zinfandel and Texaxco had varieties of Gallo but at $4.25 per bottle need I say more about the quality of the wine? Room nice and staff friendly plus free Internet but it was pricey and the worst night we had out of the 24 day trip. Pool right on the road and in windy position. Vegetable soup was good but the waitress brought the entree at almost the same time as the soup so you had to choose which one to eat and which to let go cold. ![]() Then when you find out that the restaurant has no licence for beer or wine with your meal it is hard to get too excited about eating there although the chicken breast at lunch was very tasty my supposed 8oz certified sirloin steak was thin, fatty and tasteless. I was not forewarned that there was a train track yards from the back of the hotel and the room shook when trains passed which also hooted three times every time they went by (2 - 3 per hour and through the night). Not knowing the area and wanting to stay somewhere close to the Organ Pipe NP I booked this Best Western over their internet.
